Basketball Game Preview: Trinidad Miners vs. Sanford Mustangs

Trinidad is 1-6 against Sanford since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Trinidad Miners will head out on the road to square off against the Sanford Mustangs. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Trinidad played in conference for the first time on Saturday and they got just the result they we're looking for. They strolled past Crested Butte with points to spare, taking the game 48-34. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Miners.

Danica Shipley was her usual excellent self, putting up 20 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Those 20 points gave her a new career-high. Mikayla Hinchley was another key player, posting ten points and seven boards.

Meanwhile, Sanford had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.7 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They claimed a resounding 46-16 win over the Burros. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 30 points or more this season.

Trinidad has also been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. As for Sanford, their victory bumped their record up to 12-2.

Trinidad came up short against Sanford when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 36-25. Can Trinidad avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
