Softball Game Preview: Hayesville Yellowjackets vs. Copper Basin Cougars

The Hayesville Yellowjackets are taking a road trip to take on the Copper Basin Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hayesville has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Copper Basin will arrive with three straight victories.

Hayesville fell victim to Swain County and their airtight pitching crew last Tuesday. They lost 13-0 to the Maroon Devils.

Hayesville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mallory Peck, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Lillie McClure also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Copper Basin had just enough and edged out Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts 5-4 on Thursday.

Kinsley Ross spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Angela Graves, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Ware, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Copper Basin now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Hayesville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Hayesville suffered a grim 12-6 defeat to Copper Basin in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
