Ortiz Cabezas has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniela Beltran, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Mountain View waltzed into their contest on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Mustangs a 17-0 shutout. Considering the Toros have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Allison Robles was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Robles was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Mountain View let Keelie Goodman and Kylynn Sylvester run wild. Goodman went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Sylvester went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Autumn Lavit was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Mountain View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .680. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Mesa's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Mountain View, their record now sits at 13-7.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mesa has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .497. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mesa might still be hurting after the 21-0 loss they got from Mountain View in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Jackrabbits avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
