The Port Isabel Tarpons will head out to square off against the Robstown Cottonpickers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Port Isabel has four straight wins, Robstown has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Two weeks ago, Port Isabel blew past Grulla, posting a 42-10 victory. The Tarpons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 23 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Luis Ramos, who rushed for 183 yards and three TDs on only seven carries. Port Isabel is 5-1 when Ramos posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 1-3 otherwise. Tristan Green got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Port Isabel was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 454 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 251 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.
Another reason for the win was Port Isabel's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Jahi Vasquez was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Green got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Robstown played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Cuero, falling 41-20. While losing is never fun, the Cottonpickers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 786th, while the Gobblers are ranked 104th).
Port Isabel will have to keep a close watch on Trevin Crowley and Miles Rodriguez, a pair of players who had a big impact on Robstown's prior game. Crowley threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per attempt, while Rodriguez picked up 103 receiving yards and a pair of scores. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 63 yards.
Robstown's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Port Isabel, their win bumped their record up to an identical 6-4.
Port Isabel didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Robstown when the teams last played back in November of 2023, but they still walked away with a 42-38 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Cottonpickers' Derek Silva, who threw for 159 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 33 yards. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Tarpons to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
