Softball Recap: Melba Comes Up Short

Melba extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping them down to 3-11. They fell 13-8 to the North Fremont Huskies. The Mustangs were not able to make up for their loss to the Huskies from their previous meeting back in May of 2022.

Andrea Pinto spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and 11 unearned) runs on 11 hits.

At the plate, Kyla Harris made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Elle Crimbchin, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

As for North Fremont, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games.

On North Fremont's side, the team relied heavily on Catie Pickard, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Pickard has hit this season. Lexi Peebles was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Coming up, Melba will host American Falls at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Beavers have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season. As for North Fremont, they will face off against Ririe at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
