Softball Game Preview: Strathmore Spartans vs. Corcoran Panthers

Strathmore hasn't had much luck against Corcoran recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Spartans will square off against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Strathmore is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Alpaugh a 19-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won 13 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Avery Behrens, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (four). Elizabeth McDonald was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Corcoran, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Everything went their way against Fresno on Friday as they made off with a 10-0 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Panthers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

The victory (which was Strathmore's third in a row) raised their record to 16-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Corcoran, their victory bumped their record up to 13-14.

Strathmore took their win against Corcoran in their previous matchup last Thursday by a conclusive 7-0 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
