Basketball Recap: Providence Country Day Takes a Loss

Providence Country Day suffered their biggest defeat since January 15th on Monday. They were dealt an 80-48 loss at the hands of the Central Falls Warriors. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2014.

Providence Country Day's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Gabe Johnson, who posted 16 points, and Nelson Wilson, who put up 15 points. Those 15 points gave Wilson a new career-high.

Central Falls' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jamilson De Pina Almeida led the charge by dropping a double-double with 23 points and 20 rebounds. De Pina Almeida has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more boards the last 15 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sire Hazard, who went 7-for-12 to rack up 19 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists.

Providence Country Day's record is now 8-10. As for Central Falls, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-10.

Providence Country Day wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 61-31 defeat against Mt. Hope on the 12th. As for Central Falls, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 72-26 win against Block Island on the 12th.
