Basketball Recap: Coosa Christian's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

If Coosa Christian was riding high fresh off their 68-37 takedown of West End last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Coosa Christian Conquerors fell 80-67 to the Sardis Lions on Thursday. The Conquerors' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Coosa Christian lost, don't look at Kylen Johnson. Despite the final result, he went 12 of 26 en route to 30 points. Johnson's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Peek, who went 5 for 6 on his way to 12 points.

Coosa Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Sardis, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-15.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coosa Christian and Victory Christian will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for Sardis, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Boaz at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Sardis knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Boaz likes a good challenge.
