Baseball Recap: Southport Has No Trouble Against Beech Grove

Southport had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 13-10 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Beech Grove Hornets as they made off with a 13-2 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cardinals needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Southport let Nick Godsey and Robert Ludlow run wild. Godsey went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Ludlow went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Godsey is becoming a predictor of Southport's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 8-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Riley Matlock, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Southport always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

As for Beech Grove, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-21 record this season. They just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.
