Langston Hughes had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They put the hurt on the Westlake Lions with a sharp 46-21 win. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jacob Jackson, who rushed for 92 yards and one score on only nine carries, and also picked up 41 receiving yards. Elias Gandy also helped out with an impressive 102 receiving yards.

Langston Hughes and Westlake should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings. The Panthers will square off against Mays at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (8 vs. 76). Meanwhile, Westlake (ranked 32nd) will meet Douglass (ranked 162nd) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
