Basketball Recap: Winthrop Takes a Loss

Winthrop lost against Marblehead back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Winthrop Vikings lost 69-49 to the Marblehead Magicians. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while the Magicians are ranked 103rd).

Winthrop dropped their record down to 2-10 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Marblehead, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winthrop has already played their next match (against Swampscott), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Marblehead will face off against Beverly at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Beverly knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Marblehead likes a good challenge.
