Baseball Game Preview: Sumter Gamecocks vs. West Florence Knights

For the second straight game, Sumter will face off against West Florence. Sumter will host West Florence at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sumter 3.2, West Florence 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Last Tuesday, Sumter didn't have quite enough to beat West Florence and fell 2-1.

For West Florence's part, Cooper Coleman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits.

On the hitting side, West Florence's victory was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Derrick Austin, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.

West Florence pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Sumter, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.
