Naugatuck Valley - Copper recap Oct. 3, 2012

Torrington scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Holy Cross, 24-21. At the time, the Crusaders was ranked 22nd in the state, while the Red Raiders was 44th.

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Torrington, who took down 22nd ranked Holy Cross, 24-21.

St. Paul Catholic's dynamic duo of Logan Marchi and Reid Morin proved tough for Naugatuck to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Marchi threw for 325 yards and five touchdowns and Morin had 166 yards receiving. Daija Fitzpatrick helped St. Paul Catholic's passing attack out by catching six balls for 80 yards.

Mick Pernell was the most productive running back in Naugatuck Valley - Copper this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 119 yards as the Greyhounds lost to the Greyhounds. Antione Sistrunk also contributed to the rushing game with 43 yards on the ground.

St. Paul Catholic's Marchi and Morin have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Marchi has thrown for 1030 yards this season, while Morin, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 19 catches for 404 yards. Pernell from Naugatuck leads the league in rushing with 428 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Sacred Heart takes on Rob Plasky's team. At the moment, the Hearts are in fifth, while the Greyhounds are in first.

Marchi and Morin provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Naugatuck. The connection was good for 67 yards, the longest such play in Naugatuck Valley - Copper this season.
