Volleyball Recap: Mercer County Golden Eagles vs. Sherrard Tigers

Mercer County lost against Sherrard back in September, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Mercer County Golden Eagles took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sherrard Tigers. The Golden Eagles have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

While Mercer County had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-18.

Molly Hofmann paced Mercer County's offense, picking up ten kills. Hofmann got some help from Natalie Thomson and her 14 assists. Finally, Koleigh Dixon kept Mercer County's defense grounded, leading the team with two blocks.

Sherrard was led to victory by Adalynn Elsbury and Jenna Copeland. Elsbury had 15 digs, while Copeland had three digs and 27 assists. Copeland is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 14 or more in the last six games she's played.

Mercer County's defeat dropped their record down to 19-11. As for Sherrard, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 24-8.

Mercer County has already played their next match, a 2-0 loss against Rock Falls on the 24th. As for Sherrard, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Geneseo on the 24th.
