Basketball Recap: Wasatch Wasps vs. Brighton Bengals

Wasatch gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They blew past the Brighton Bengals 59-29. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Wasps also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2024.

Wasatch was led to victory by Filifaiesea Liava'a and Mahala Speredon. Liava'a went 7-for-10 en route to 15 points along with six assists and five rebounds, while Speredon dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 boards. What's more, Speredon posted three steals, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Anna Greenwell was another key player, putting up seven points and five boards.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Wasatch was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brighton only posted three.

Despite the loss, Brighton still got an impressive performance from Sophie Nielsen, who earned 22 points and eight rebounds. The contest was Nielsen's third in a row with at least 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Smith, who put up four points and six boards.

Wasatch has already played their next matchup, a 70-52 victory against Morgan on the 21st. As for Brighton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 59-19 win against Park City on the 21st.
