Softball Recap: Heritage Academy Starts off Right with Win over Imagine Prep Coolidge

Heritage Academy had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Imagine Prep Coolidge Eagles 29-1 on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Heroes in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won eight in a row.

Cadence Baugher and Addy Gillespie were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Baugher struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Gillespie tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Baugher scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Gillespie scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Zoey Wheaton and Jordyn Taylor did most of the damage at the plate: Wheaton got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, five runs, and five RBI, while Taylor got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave Taylor a new career-high in RBI (four). Maya Zappa was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Heritage Academy will face off against Maricopa Institute of Technology at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Imagine Prep Coolidge, they will hit the road for the first time this season to challenge Heritage Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
