Basketball Game Preview: Marco Island Academy Rays vs. Donahue Catholic Shamrocks

Marco Island Academy is 1-9 against Donahue Catholic since January of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Marco Island Academy Rays will head out to challenge the Donahue Catholic Shamrocks at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with six losses in a row dating back to last season, Marco Island Academy turned things around against Everglades City on Tuesday. They snuck past the Gators with a 35-31 victory.

Meanwhile, Donahue Catholic waltzed into their game on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They breezed by the Paladins to the tune of 59-5. With the Shamrocks ahead 39-3 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Donahue Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 20.2 points per game. As for Marco Island Academy, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Marco Island Academy was dealt a bruising 54-16 defeat at the hands of Donahue Catholic in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. Can Marco Island Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
