Chowchilla comes up short despite Ryan Deatherage's dominant performance

The Chowchilla Tribe's's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 77-48 loss at the hands of Cheyenne. Chowchilla was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-21.

When it comes to explaining why Chowchilla lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ryan Deatherage. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Deatherage scored a full 43.8% of Chowchilla's points, the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Zayne Smith, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Leading Cheyenne to victory were Cordae Feazell and Carlo Navarro. Feazell scored 14 points along with nine assists and six rebounds, while Navarro scored 26 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Feazell posted eight or more assists. Omarion Kincey was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds.

Chowchilla's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Cheyenne, their victory bumped their record up to 2-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chowchilla and Mendota will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Mendota's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five contests.
