Basketball Recap: Fort Ann Cardinals vs. Varsity Opponent

The Fort Ann Cardinals can finally bid farewell to their nine-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 60-57 win over Varsity Opponent. Fort Ann's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Fort Ann was led to victory by Kadynce Cutter and Javier Hernandez. Cutter dropped a double-double on 13 points and 19 rebounds, while Hernandez dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hernandez has scored all season. Garrett Brown was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six assists and three steals.

Fort Ann's victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-13. As for Varsity Opponent, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 15 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 373-1338-2 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fort Ann will challenge the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hadley Luzerne is on a four-game streak of home losses, the Cardinals a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Varsity Opponent is on the road again on Monday and plays the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on February 5th.
