Basketball Game Preview: El Segundo Eagles vs. Torrance Tartars

The El Segundo Eagles and the Torrance Tartars will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Last Wednesday, El Segundo was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 45-40 to Poly. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 471st, while the Bears are ranked 129th).

While Torrance didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Genevieve on Friday, sneaking past 63-61.

Torrance is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.2 points per game. As for El Segundo, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-8.

El Segundo strolled past Torrance in their previous meeting back in January by a score of 62-43. Will El Segundo repeat their success, or does Torrance have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
