Basketball Game Preview: Kofa Kings vs. Gila Ridge Hawks

Kofa is on a five-game streak of home losses, Gila Ridge an eight-game streak of away losses dating back to last season, but someone's luck will change on Friday. The Kofa Kings will host the Gila Ridge Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Last Tuesday, Kofa had to suffer through a 74-45 loss at the hands of Maryvale. While losing is never fun, the Kings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while the Panthers are ranked 103rd).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Christian Curiel, who posted six points in addition to ten rebounds and five blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Eddie Smith, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 12 points and eight boards.

Meanwhile, Gila Ridge played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Yuma and fell 85-48. The Hawks were down 69-35 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Gila Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Kofa, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-11.

Kofa and Gila Ridge were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but Kofa came up empty-handed after a 53-52 defeat.
