Softball Recap: James Lick Comes Up Short

James Lick was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against the Mt. Pleasant Cardinals, falling 21-11. If the Comets were looking for revenge after losing 12-0 to the Cardinals when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Natalie Cortez stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last ten games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jada Cruz, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

James Lick's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Mt. Pleasant, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-3.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. James Lick will take on rival Evergreen Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Mt. Pleasant is set to face off against their familiar foe Hill at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
