Brianna Brenner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Key West let Skye Sterling and Shylo Sanchez run wild. Sterling went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Sanchez went 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Sterling has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Tavyn Gage, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Key West lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Archbishop McCarthy, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They put the hurt on Dr. Joaquin Garcia with a sharp 7-1 win on Wednesday.
Sienna Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up 13 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lydia Springer, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Sophia Jimenez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Archbishop McCarthy has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Key West, their record now sits at 15-7.
Everything went Key West's way against Archbishop McCarthy in their previous meeting back in March of 2022, as Key West made off with a 9-0 win. Will the Conchs repeat their success, or do the Mavericks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
