League recap: Maricopa gets lift from Ashe's big bat

II Section I league recap: 3/8/13

Michael Ashe was on fire this week, as he led II Section I with a .600 average with six RBIs. Meanwhile, Maricopa put together a 3-0 week.

Top honors in the league this week go to Douglas, which finished with five wins overall, good for best in the league. The Bulldogs beat Santa Rita 21-0, Amphitheater 7-4 and Riverside 7-5.

Casa Grande's pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing five hits and two walks to lead the league in both categories.

Maricopa scored 53 runs this week to lead the league, but Ironwood Ridge is tops in runs scored this year, with 103.

There were 19 hitters that batted over .400 in the league this week. The group was paced by Wyatt Pattyson, who collected nine hits in 12 at bats for a .750 average.

Poston Butte's Wyatt Pattyson led the league with nine hits this week. He is first in the league with 17 hits this year, and has a .630 batting average.



Jaren Holmes threw a shutout as he led Queen Creek to victory over Apache Junction, 16-0, on Tuesday.

Maricopa's Dallas Speer struck out 12 Coronado hitters en route to a 9-3 victory on March 1. Over seven innings of work, he gave up eight hits and three runs.
