Softball Recap: Halifax Academy Comes Up Short

Thursday just wasn't the day for Halifax Academy's offense. They fell just short of the Cape Fear Christian Academy Eagles by a score of 2-0 on Thursday. Vikings fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Eagles since on Thursday.

Payton Odom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

Halifax Academy's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-9-1. As for Cape Fear Christian Academy, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 8-0.

Looking ahead, Halifax Academy will challenge Lawrence Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Vikings 3.9, the Warriors 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Cape Fear Christian Academy, they will square off against Wayne Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
