Baseball Recap: Six Straight Home Wins for Papillion-Lavista

Papillion-LaVista had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Gretna on Saturday. The Monarchs blew past the Dragons 11-3. The win was nothing new for the Monarchs as they're now sitting on three straight.

Jordan McDade looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

At the plate, Luke Bennett was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Evan Eddie was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Papillion-LaVista was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gretna only posted a batting average of .231.

Papillion-LaVista pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Gretna, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Papillion-LaVista will challenge Bryan on Monday. The Monarchs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bears have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Gretna, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Blair at 6:30 p.m. on the 22nd.
