Football Recap: Eli Luther Key Part of Team Effort in Eagles Win

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Overton had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They came out on top against the Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack by a score of 49-42.

Overton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Eli Luther out in front who threw for 301 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.1 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 40 yards and one TD. Brock McCarter was another key player, picking up 143 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Overton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Luther, McCarter, and Quinton Anderson picked up one apiece. Anderson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Overton's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.3 points over those games. As for Elgin/Pope John, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.

Coming up, Overton will challenge Howells-Dodge on Friday. The Jaguars' defense has only allowed 12.4 points per game this season, so the Eagles' offense will have their work cut out for them. Elgin/Pope John does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
