Recap: Independent Panthers vs. Life Prep Fire
After a string of six wins, the Independent Panthers's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 50-49 to Life Prep. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Independent has scored all season.
Independent's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sir Ryan Dennis, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Phillips-Grey, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Independent struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Life Prep pulled down 13 offensive rebounds.
Life Prep's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Arthur Videira, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Laterro Young, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Independent's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-1. As for Life Prep, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Independent will be playing in front of their home fans against Conway Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Conway Springs is ranked 89th, while Independent is ranked 64th). Life Prep on the road again on Friday and play against North Kansas City at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th.
