Baseball Recap: Roane County Drops Season-High Score on Poca

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Roane County). They put the hurt on the Poca Dots with a sharp 21-1 win on Wednesday. With that victory, the Raiders brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

C ASH made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Roane County is undefeated when ASH allows one or fewer earned runs, but 2-6 otherwise. ASH was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, C KINDER and J GREATHOUSE did most of the damage at the plate: KINDER went 3-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and five RBI, while GREATHOUSE went 3-for-4 with two triples, two stolen bases, and three runs. KINDER continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. C CASTO also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Roane County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .515. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Roane County's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Poca, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.

Coming up, Roane County will venture away from home to square off against Clay County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Poca, they will welcome Nitro at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Dots are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
