Baseball Recap: Springfield Takes a Loss

Springfield extended their losing streak to eight on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-9 in the process. They lost 12-2 to the Napoleon Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Blue Devils of the 5-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Springfield saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryce Steinmiller, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

As for Napoleon, they pushed their record up to 6-2-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

On Napoleon's side, Trey Rubinstein was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Rubinstein was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Owen Espinoza was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs and two stolen bases. Parker Woods was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

While Springfield had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
