Baseball Game Preview: Corning Cardinals vs. Las Plumas Thunderbirds

The Corning Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Las Plumas Thunderbirds at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Corning has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with five straight defeats, while Las Plumas will come in with four straight wins.

It was a proper cat-fight when Corning took on Live Oak on Friday. The Cardinals lost 8-2 to the Lions. That's two games in a row now that the Cardinals have lost by exactly six runs.

Corning saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brandon Cordova, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Las Plumas owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over Oroville. The Thunderbirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

Not much got past Hunter George, who gave up just a hit and racked up 16 Ks to keep Oroville off the board. George is becoming a predictor of Las Plumas' success: when he allows at most two hits the team is undefeated (and 6-8-2 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ethan Gramps, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Carlos Telly also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Las Plumas now has a winning record of 9-8-2. As for Corning, their loss dropped their record down to 2-16.

Corning might still be hurting after the 8-1 defeat they got from Las Plumas in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Cardinals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
