Elyria Catholic is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. Everything went their way against Northwest as they made off with a 12-6 victory. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 16 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Hannah Brooks was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Jessica Conner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Elyria Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northwest only posted an OBP of .344.
Meanwhile, Lakeview had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They came out on top against the Dukes by a score of 5-1.
Isabella Isenberg spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits.
On the hitting side, Lakeview saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Linnea Kovac, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another was Kalyssa Werner, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.
The win made it two in a row for Elyria Catholic and bumps their season record up to 24-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Lakeview, their record now sits at 20-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Elyria Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lakeview struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts.
