Football Recap: Edinburg Falls to Mercedes in First Game of Season

Edinburg unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 21-7 bruising from the Mercedes Tigers on Thursday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it four in a row.

Aidden Sanchez threw for 177 yards and one TD. Ethan Calderon was his top target, picking up 44 receiving yards. On the ground, Woodrow Villarreal rushed for 51 yards.

Edinburg has already played their next matchup, a 19-6 victory against Vela on the 5th. As for Mercedes, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-13 win against Donna on the 5th.
