Soccer Game Preview: Waelder vs. Smithville

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Waelder duke it out with the Smithville at 5:15 p.m. on Friday... Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Waelder is likely headed into the matchup with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Navarro two weeks ago. Waelder lost 6-2 to Navarro. The loss was the Wildcats' first of the season.

SADIEL FIGUEROA FRANCO wasn't going to let Navarro walk away unscathed as he scored both of Waelder's goals, bringing his season total up to eight goals.

Meanwhile, Smithville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against Manor New Tech, falling 8-0. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 705th, while Manor New Tech are ranked 155th).

Having lost for the first time this season, Waelder fell to 3-1. As for Smithville, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Waelder might still be hurting after the 4-1 defeat they got from Smithville in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Waelder avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
