Basketball Recap: Ethan Hicks Key Part of a Team Effort in Wildcats Win

Wesley Chapel won the last time they faced Lake Gibson and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Wesley Chapel Wildcats took down the Lake Gibson Braves 90-76. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while the Braves are ranked 448th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wesley Chapel's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ethan Hicks, who went 8 of 18 on his way to 34 points along with seven boards and three steals. Hicks has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 14 times he's played. Sian Morris was another key player, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Wesley Chapel smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Wesley Chapel's win bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Lake Gibson, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Wesley Chapel Wildcats face off against the Jesuit Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wesley Chapel is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 74.2 points per game this season. As for Lake Gibson, they will take on Flagler Palm Coast at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Lake Gibson knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Flagler Palm Coast likes a good challenge.
