The Lapel Bulldogs will square off against the Heritage Christian Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Heritage Christian will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Lapel extended their winning streak to nine on Saturday. The Bulldogs put the hurt on Northfield with a sharp 16-1 victory.
Jakoby Nunley tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits.
On the hitting side, Lapel got a massive performance out of AJ Nunley, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Nunley has posted over his last 13 matches. Another player making a difference was Jaxson Cripe, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Lapel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Heritage Christian made easy work of Eastern Hancock on Saturday and carried off a 15-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
Heritage Christian also got a great performance from Tripp Vaughan as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Vaughan has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Will Ambrose was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Eli Strege was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Lapel's victory was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Heritage Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
Both Lapel and Heritage Christian just can't seem to miss. The Bulldogs have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Heritage Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
