Baseball Recap: The Grove School Comes Up Short

The Grove School extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-8 in the process. They came up short against the Norton Science & Language Academy Rockets, falling 16-6. The Ravens were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rockets earlier this season, when they won 15-12.

As for Norton Science & Language Academy, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-13. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last six games.

For Norton Science & Language Academy's part, Isaiah Saldana and Nicolas Terrazas made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Saldana struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Terrazas pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts Saldana has posted since back in March. At the plate, Saldana got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Terrazas got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Saldana is becoming a predictor of Norton Science & Language Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-12 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Gustavo Roldan was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Iniguez Vera, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

The Grove School has already played their next contest (against Crossroads Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Norton Science & Language Academy, they will face off against Entrepreneur at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bulls have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.08 runs per game on average), something the Rockets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
