Basketball Game Preview: Alma Cardinals vs. Elm Creek Buffaloes

Alma hasn't had much luck against Elm Creek recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Alma Cardinals are taking a road trip to take on the Elm Creek Buffaloes at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Tuesday, Alma strolled past Kenesaw with points to spare, taking the game 42-24. The win continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won eight in a row.

Meanwhile, Elm Creek waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with 16 straight wins... but they left with 17. They really took it to the Wildcats for the full four quarters, racking up a 67-19 victory. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-10.

Elm Creek's win came from a few key players Alma will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kendal Cavenee, who went 5-for-8 to rack up 11 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. She is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last five games she's played. Ashley Bauer was another key player, going 6-for-12 on her way to 17 points.

Alma's win bumped their record up to 19-5. As for Elm Creek, they pushed their record up to 22-1 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home.

Alma came up short against Elm Creek in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 53-49. Can Alma avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
