Basketball Game Preview: Lanier County Bulldogs vs. Irwin County Indians

The Lanier County Bulldogs just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Irwin County Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

On Friday, Lanier County was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 53-49 to Atkinson County. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Irwin County didn't have too much trouble with Charlton County on Friday as they won 48-34. The win made it back-to-back victories for Irwin County.

Lanier County better focus on containing Jaylen Martin and Sam Guy as the pair were huge in Irwin County's win. Martin went 6 for 13 en route to 14 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while Guy almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Martin a new career-high in blocks (three). Another player making a difference was Tyon Jones, who posted eight points and five boards.

Irwin County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Lanier County's loss dropped their record down to 13-10. As for Irwin County, their win bumped their record up to 10-13.

Lanier County won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in January, slipping by Irwin County 57-56. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lanier County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
