Softball Preview: Hudson's Bay Eagles vs. Woodland Beavers
Hudson's Bay hasn't had much luck against Woodland recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:30 p.m. Hudson's Bay has given up an average of 19 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Hudson's Bay duked it out with Prairie back in March. The Eagles came up short against the Falcons, falling 22-2. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Woodland made sure to put some runs up on the board against La Center last Friday. The Beavers were the clear victors by a 14-5 margin over the Wildcats. The Beavers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by six runs or more this season.
Addi Christensen was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She also tossed four walks, marking her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-5.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emma Barrow, who scored three runs while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Ainsleigh Utter was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three RBI.
Woodland hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as La Center struck out nine times.
The win got Woodland back to even at 3-3. As for Hudson's Bay, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
