Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Verbum Dei Jesuit's 13th in Last 14 Outings

Verbum Dei Jesuit extended their home winning streak to six games thanks to a huge performance from Ryan Figueroa. The Verbum Dei Jesuit Eagles skirted past the South Pasadena Tigers 73-70 thanks in part to Figueroa, who went 13 for 22 en route to 32 points. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game.

The team also got some help courtesy of Curtis Simpson, who posted five points. What's more, he also racked up two steals, the most he's had since back in November of 2024.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Miles Nowe, who went 8 of 14 from beyond the arc on his way to 30 points. Nowe has become a key player for South Pasadena: the team is 17-6 when he posts at least 25 points, but 1-3 otherwise. Jacob Arias also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.

Verbum Dei Jesuit has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a massive bump to their 19-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.6 points per game. As for South Pasadena, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-9.

Verbum Dei Jesuit does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South Pasadena, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 57-55 win against San Marino on the 5th.
