Softball Recap: Independence Wins Going Away Against Ravenwood

Independence was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Ravenwood on Thursday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Raptors with a sharp 15-0 win. Considering the Eagles have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Logan Riebe, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Reagan Maxon, who went 3-for-4 with four runs and two RBI.

Independence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .548. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Independence pushed their record up to 12-11 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Ravenwood, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11-1 record this season.

Independence will be taking part in a tournament against Colbert County at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ravenwood, they will venture away from home to take on Page at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raptors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
