Softball Recap: Sulphur Wins Going Away Against New Iberia

Sulphur never got on the board in their matchup last Saturday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against New Iberia on Tuesday. They blew past the Yellowjackets 10-2. The win continues a trend for the Golden Tors in their matchups with the Yellowjackets: they've now won five in a row.

Pressy White was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 18 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Charlie Kyle, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and one double. Another player making a difference was Maliyah Navarre, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.

Sulphur kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Iberia only managed three hits.

Sulphur's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-11. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for New Iberia, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Sulphur is set to square off against their familiar foe Acadiana at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, New Iberia will challenge rival Lafayette at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
