Softball Game Preview: Alexander Spartans vs. Wellston Golden Rockets

Alexander hasn't had much luck against Wellston recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Spartans will be playing at home against the Golden Rockets at 5:00 p.m. Alexander has given up an average of 15.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Alexander is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They came up short against Wellston, falling 19-3.

For Wellston's part, Hannah Potts was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Potts has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Fain, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Maddie Childers was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Wellston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .364 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Alexander's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Wellston, their loss ended a 12-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-2.
