Athens Academy put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past the Shaw Raiders 48-13 on the road. Fans of the Spartans have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ point.

A big part of the victory came down to the chemistry between Hampton Johnson and his top target Keyon Standifer. Johnson threw for 336 yards and four touchdowns on only 18 passes while Standifer picked up 284 receiving yards and four touchdowns. That's the most total yards Johnson has posted since back in August of 2023. Athens Academy also got a significant boost from Jamari Welch, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 164 yards.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Athens Academy was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 560 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shaw only gained 329.

Shaw lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Aryn Grant, who rushed for 85 yards on only 12 carries, and also threw for 93 yards and a touchdown. Kingston Long was another key signal caller, picking up 97 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Athens Academy's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Shaw, they now have a losing record at 1-2.

Athens Academy will take on John Milledge Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Athens Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Shaw, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Hardaway at 7:00 p.m. on September 12th.
