The Southern Lee Cavaliers are taking a road trip to square off against the Lee County Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southern Lee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Southern Lee will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Green Level on Monday. The Cavaliers put the hurt on the Gators with a sharp 15-5 victory. The Cavaliers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by ten runs or more this season.
Ben Harrington and Bryan McCollum made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Harrington tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, McCollum tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in 13 consecutive appearances. At bat, Harrington went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while McCollum went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs McCollum has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cole Faulk, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Cooper Moss, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Lee County scored first but ultimately less than Green Level in their contest on Saturday. They came up short against the Gators, falling 12-6. The Yellow Jackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lee County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alston Beal, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Jack Martin also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Southern Lee's record now sits at 14-7. As for Lee County, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.
Southern Lee's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Cavaliers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Lee County, though, as they've been averaging only 1.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Southern Lee continue to outrun the ball?
Southern Lee couldn't quite get it done against Lee County when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 3-0. Can the Cavaliers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
