Softball Recap: Old Orchard Beach Comes Up Short

Old Orchard Beach had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-2 to make it nine. They came up short against the St. Dominic Saints, falling 10-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Saints this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 on Monday.

As for St. Dominic, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games.

For St. Dominic's part, not much got past Madeline Andrews, who gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks to keep Old Orchard Beach off the board.

On the hitting side, Sophia Franciose was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Emily Andrews was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Coming up, Old Orchard Beach will challenge Mount View at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for St. Dominic, they are taking a road trip to challenge Mountain Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Saints' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 11.8 runs per game this season.
