Volleyball Recap: Alexander Falls to Gallia Academy in First Game of Season

Alexander had to start their season on the road on Saturday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gallia Academy Blue Devils. The Spartans were not able to make up for their loss to the Blue Devils from their previous meeting back in August of 2024.

While Alexander had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 20 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-23, 16-25, 25-20.

Alexander's loss came despite strong showings from Abbi Ohms and Meena Juedes. Ohms had 16 digs and two aces, while Juedes had nine kills, eight digs, six blocks, and two aces. Juedes is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had six or more in each of the last 22 games she's played dating back to last season.

Gallia Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chloe Bennett, who had 21 digs and three aces. Jacey McWhorter was another key player, getting 14 digs and two aces.

Alexander wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Federal Hocking on the 19th. Gallia Academy has also already played their next matchup (against Ironton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
