Basketball Recap: Manitou Springs Comes Up Short at Home Against Peyton

Manitou Springs unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell 51-42 to the Peyton Panthers on Tuesday. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Manitou Springs lost, don't look at Michael Reed. Despite the final result, he posted 23 points and eight steals. Cohen Barrett was another key player, putting up 11 points and five boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Peyton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Michael Perry, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten assists. The dominant performance also gave Perry a new career-high in rebounds (seven). Another player making a difference was Bryce Love, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 14 boards.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Manitou Springs will welcome Elizabeth at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Peyton, they will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Salida at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
