Baseball Recap: Calvin Christian Victorious

Calvin Christian took a 24-run defeat the last time they faced off against Tri-City Christian, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Crusaders had just enough and edged out the Eagles 4-3. For the Crusaders, this counts as revenge for the 24-0 victory the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2021.

Tyler Hoff made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and only one walk). Those 15 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Hoff wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cole Souders, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most RBI Souders has posted since back in April of 2024.

The win made it two in a row for Calvin Christian and bumps their season record up to 2-1-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Tri-City Christian, they dropped their record down to 2-5 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Calvin Christian will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
